R&D Overview
Introduction
Dr. Hiroyoshi Hidaka; Chairman and CEO, the founder of DWTI, has worked for years on research in intercellular signalling systems, especially in studies and development of protein kinase inhibitors. He achieved development of 2 first-in-class drugs with Japanese pharmaceutical companies as a result of his work.
DWTI is a drug discovery venture company aiming to discover molecular drugs focusing in protein kinase inhibitors with Dr. Hidaka’s know-how and experience in drug development.

Our Research and Development Laboratory under take drug design, screening compounds, selecting candidate compounds in an early stage of a drug research and development process.

Our R&D Process
Our Research and Development Laboratory consists of 2 groups; Molecular Design and Chemistry Group and Pharmacology Group.
Molecular Design and Chemistry Group designs and synthesize new compounds from our original seed compounds library.
Pharmacology Group tests and screens the substances in search of a new efficacy drug. Drug efficiency should be found through several flexible test methods such as molecules (ex. protein), cells, tissues, animals as an entire body model. In this process, test results of these drug candidate compounds are shared by both Molecular Design and Chemistry Group and Pharmacology Group. After all elimination of drug candidate compounds which have toxicity or weak drug effect, a final drug candidate compound will be selected.
In parallel of the above process, we identify the molecular target of the drug candidate in order to explain pharmacological mechanisms. This method is called The Drug Western method and is conducted by Pharmacology Group. Further more, several researches are made by molecular pharmacology approach, such as the way of combination between a drug candidate compound and target proteins in the cells, and also pharmacological effects in the living body.
Our Research and Development Laboratory continues to work passionately in search of first-in-class drugs.

The Drug Western Method
The Drug Western method examines what types of proteins in the body are affected by the administered drug.
The structure and function of the protein can be revealed by isolating the protein gene that the drug combines and conducting the mapping of gene sequences.
Consequently, the molecular target of a new drug becomes identifiable. In other words, the way that the new drug works can be learned in advance. As a result, in the process of developing new drugs, effective and efficient clinical studies become possible through increasing medical efficacy, eliminating side effects.
